Low volume, part time results are probably not going to be as interesting as what you were used to but I'm still on the poker journey.

My VPP goal for the year is still 200k and I am still kinda on pace for that.

I played quite a few spin and go's this month. They are definitely good fun but a huge rake trap and I doubt many will beat them.

I'm completely a recreational player now so there is not too much to report.

I am still hunting for a job as well as studying for an exam. The job hunt is still going pretty badly.

April 2014 Review

2nd worst month ever. I managed to claw back some of the losses and prevent worst month ever though after being more than $2k down on the felt :)

Going part time in April meant a very low volume month. This will also be the trend for May and onwards.

I am still hunting for a job as well as studying for an exam. The job hunt is going pretty badly and it looks like it will be very hard for me to bag a job.


The main problem is that what I am looking for is quite specific and there is lots of competition from high calibre candidates (who don't have a gap on their CV/resume). If I was going for an unskilled minimum wage kinda job then there would be so much more to choose from and I would have probably got something already but I'm not interested in that. There is more chance of me returning to poker than burger flipping :) Anyway, I will persevere for at least 3 more months before I need to re-evaluate.

March 2014 Review

Things are continuing to go reasonably well in 2014. I am winning for the 3rd month in a row.

The roll is building nicely and I hope to hit my bankroll target level in April and take a decent shot at NL200 with 10 BIs to lose before I drop back down. I need $1,300 more.

I also want to experiment with NL200z 6max a little more. I want to just play 2 tables in a few sessions and see how I get on.

As I move up I think it may be wise to start to cut down on tables/ volume and concentrate on quality. For example if I simply win 1 stack a day at 200 then that is like $6k in a month. I won over 60 stacks this month at smaller levels.

February 2014 Review

Swings all over the place pretty much sums up February.

The highlight was obviously having my new best day ever. 

I am really comfortable now at NL100 but +/-$1k swings in a day are still a little much for my roll. I want to pad up another $5k or so before I take long shots at higher levels. So I expect to be at mainly NL100 for another couple of months.

Not sure what goals I want to set for March yet. I might throw out a post soon with a few new ideas.

January 2014 Review

A pretty decent start to the new year. January is in the books and it is my second best month ever..!! It is however my best month ever in terms of table winnings.

I have now moved my volume from predominately NL25/NL50 to a NL50/NL100 mix at ZOOM. I'm still playing up to 8 tables at a time.

I also hit 200k hands for the first time in ages. I think the last time was in 2012.

It is also the second highest amount of VPPs that I have made in a month.

December 2013 Review

Another year complete. Time is flying. It seems like just yesterday when was I was playing £5 home games with mates for the very first time and getting hooked..!!

Fast forward 8 years and here I am doing my full year review :).

This has been a low volume month with the first 12 or 13 days off.

I didn't worry too much about winning in December. I just wanted to collect my last FPP bonus really and plan my 2014.

All in all the year has been decent with only about 10 months played in actual grind time but still managing to have my best year ever even though the money won is nothing special..!! I continue to make more each year although it is a small year on year improvement. Hopefully I will make more again in 2014.

Samsung Galaxy S4

It has been a pretty low volume month in October with having a week off for holiday and starting work on my exam.

Sadly the low volume will continue into November and will probably be worse than Oct.

October was pretty swingy and all in all a very forgettable month as I didn't even pick up a FFP cash bonus which I do pretty much every month normally.

The Supernova+ $1m freeroll is in Nov so I will be looking forward to playing that.

In other news I bought a new Samsung Galaxy S4 yesterday and have been playing around with that. Looks like an awesome piece of kit so far.

September = Worst month of 2013 at the tables.

I ran pretty bad all month long and I didn't play my best either.

The month was amazingly swingy as you can see from the big blinds graph below.

The only good thing to come from this month was the passing of 200k VPPs.

It will be a massive grind to hit 300k VPPs by year end but I am determined to do it.

August was the month of swings.

The month started off with a 2 day heater, up around $1.2k. I thought at that stage it could be a record month......

After that came the $2k downswing :( No more notions about records, just aimed at some profit.

I then did a charity grindathon to give something back.

July 2013 Review

I managed to get some decent volume again in July.

The month started off really well and I think I won around $1,300 in the first week. I then dropped around $1.8k in the second week only to go on a mad heater and win $2k in 20k hands which was nice.

The rest of the month was quite disappointing and it swung up and down but stayed pretty stagnant after the 20k hand heater.

I did have a few brief sessions at NL200 which didn't go too well as I played like a donk. I will shoot these tables again in August.

I am also planning on adding a little 6-max again to see if I can crack that version of the game.

March was a bit annoying in the sense that I won stacks but broke even $$ wise. In a nutshell I won at all stakes up to and including NL50 but I lost at the business end which is NL100/NL200. Wish it was the other way round :p  The positive that I take from March is that I put in a lot of volume at NL100 and I happy that I can eventually beat that level.

February 2013 Review

I just finished watching Argo, pretty good film but not as good as everyone says. Its got a rating of 8 on IMDB but I would go for 6.9 :)

I'm not playing any serious poker today and having the rest of the night off.

I played 3 micro stakes 'timed' tournaments today just for fun. There is not too much strategy in these but they are a good laugh.

Feb was not looking too bad going into the last week, I was eyeing a +$4k month but then I took a big dive at the tables and lost all my winnings :(

I played similar games to last month, a mix from NL25-NL200 with both FR and 6-max.

January 2013 Review

It was going to be pretty hard to top last month's record takings and considering that I didn't want to move up too much till Feb it was very unlikely.

I didn't beat it but had a shot with a very good start after having most of week 1 off. It slowed down at the end and I cruised home to a decent start.

The most interesting part of Jan was my foray into 6-max and starting out quite high at NL100 ZOOM. I somehow managed to beat it for 10.37bb/100 over 15k hands which is a very small sample. I won't read too much into it as I always like 300k+ samples to get a good idea of winrate.

December 2012 Review

To put it simply, best month ever..!! I also played the most hands that I have ever played in a month.

I carried on with ZOOM playing 9 tables of NL50/ NL25 as before and managed to win a decent amount.

I also played a few sessions at NL100/ NL200 to experiment for 2013 and the tables were good I have to say. It was probably due to the holidays but I hope they are like that all the time.

The year is over I have made a smallish amount overall but am happy as I spent a large amount of time dealing with other family issues that needed to be sorted while I was grinding. Probably lost around 1m hands due to off table time but it is what it is.

A drunken session near the end of the month lost me lots of BIs as I played NL2, NL5, NL10, NL25 and NL50. So the 100 BI month failed.

There's a new level in 2013 so I now have 6 Stars but I'm not Elite :(
