Fat, Sick And Nearly Dead

I recently bought a nutrition extractor called nutirbullet after watching a few YouTube videos. It was a total random act which I thought would help me add a little extra good stuff to my diet.

Since then I have done a bit more research of come across some very interesting clips that I think could change my life. If you have ever had any weight or health issues then check out these films:

Calisthenics - Superhuman Bodyweight Workout - Frank Medrano

This is a truly amazing and inspirational video by Frank Medrano. I'd love to be half as good as him. I'm still aiming to be able to do 10 proper pull-ups which I set myself ages and ages ago. I can report that I am not even close. I would also love to be able to do 1 muscle-up one time in my life. The fight goes on....

How Many Calories Do You Burn Idling or Doing Nothing In 24hrs?

So the missus and I have challenged ourselves to losing some weight. I want to lose 10-14lbs and tone up a bit. I'm currently 192lbs and 5'10".

I never realised that we all actually burn a lot a of calories while doing absolutely nothing. This short clip shows how to calculate how much you burn according to your height, weight, age and sex:

Another lazier way to get a (very rough) estimate is to multiply your body weight in lbs by 11:
Here is the source

If you want an online calculator try this one.

I will try and update in a few weeks as to my weight loss progress.

Big Daddy Update - 30/03/12

Its been a while since I did a health and fitness update so here goes.

My last post was about my obsession with doing pull ups. I really got into it and in fact so much so that I managed to injure myself on the inside of both my elbows. I got to the stage where I could do 5 proper standing start pull ups which was pretty good considering that I couldn't do any a few months before I started.

I need to realise that I am no longer a 20yr old and can't go hell for leather with exercise. :)    Slow and steady wins the race..!! I was hitting the pull ups hard and doing them every single day, sometimes twice a day.

My right elbow is completely fine now but the left one still hurts a little when I try to do a pull up. I can just about do 2 now.

My main focus now has been to switch to cardio work and try to lose weight. I ended last week at 13st 6lbs and today I am 13st 1lb after hitting the cross trainer a few times and eating less. I have a wedding to go to next Sunday and could not fit into my old suit when I tried it on a few weeks back. So my mission for the next 9 days is to lose another 4lbs or so. If not I will have to fork out for a new suit which will probably cost between $200 - $300. I will try to do 8k per day on the x-trainer.

Big Daddy Update - 30/09/11

My obsession with pull-ups continues.... I can now do 3 proper pull-ups before I fail. 2 months ago I could only do 1. A few years back I could not do any. When I was 20 I could do 6. My target is to be able to do 10 proper.

I now weigh 13st 5lbs (85kg or 187lbs)

Big Daddy Update - 22/07/11

I'm not sure why the post I wrote called 'Big-daddy-is-in-house' is the 5th most read post on my blog. It is totally unrelated to poker and was basically a reference to my overweightyness.

Anyway, I thought I would just update on my progress. Since that post in Feb I have lost precisely 1lb in weight, lol. I'm sure if I took a pretty large dump I could drop around 3lbs in weight in one sitting..!!

The last 3 weeks have seen me step up my gym routine and I feel trimmer round the waist through all the cardio but I have also done a lot of weight training which is probably why there is no weight loss as I have a bit more muscle (I will keep telling myself this, lol).

So, I bought this chin up bar (or pull up bar) from ebay and it arrived yesterday. You basically use it on your door frame without apparently any chance of damaging anything. It can hold up to a 250lb person and I weigh 188lbs (85kg). I can only do 1 proper pull up before I fail. When I was 20yrs old I could do 6.

My goal is to be able to do 10.

Please leave a comment if you know anything about doing pull ups

Here is online trainer Scooby showing you how to use it:

Pulling my teeth out with pliers.....

This could easily be a normal poker related post as I often feel like doing something like this when I take some of these ridiculous bad beats..!!

2 days ago I was completely fine. Now I am in complete agony and thinking about going into A&E.

My wisdom tooth has popped or something and I am in so much pain its unbearable. Its only 1 tooth as the other 3 have never grown.

I just took 45mins to eat a meal. I normally take about 10mins. Emergency dentist tomorrow for me now..... seriously though if I last that long. The pliers are ready.... Never had tooth pain like this in my life.... Its gonna be a long night..!!

Anyone got any wisdom teeth stories?

Big Daddy is in the House

Big Daddy was a British professional wrestler famous for his record-breaking 64 inch chest.

Known for wearing his various Big Daddy leotards, his original one was emblazoned with just a large "D" and was fashioned by his wife Eunice from their chintz sofa.

Today I feel like a bit of a Big Daddy

For dinner I enjoyed a large Domino's Pizza with Garlic Bread and Chicken Wings, washed down with some full fat Coke. In a word it was delicious.

As a poker player the amount of exercise I do has reduced as I spend lots of time on a chair in front of a screen. When I was working at least I would walk to the car, then drive to work and walk to my desk, lol. Eating these unhealthy junk food meals has also helped to bring me to my worst fitness level ever. Also after a knee injury about 4yrs ago I have difficulty running and playing football so have stopped all of that. This has also added to my bad conditioning

I didn't realise till I jumped on the scales today for the first time in ages that I now weigh the heaviest that I have ever weighed, a whopping 13st 7lbs (189lbs). At 5'10" this is hardly obese compared to others in the UK and US (Fattest nations on earth) but for me personally it is unacceptable. All my life I have been a sports person indulging in various activities at an amateur level.

The point of this post is to kick start a new fitness regime. My cardio work will be based around using the cross-trainer machine. This has no impact on my bad knee, so I can sweat out 5k sessions as often as I like.

For the last 4yrs I have set myself the challenge of doing 100 gym sessions each year. I have failed every year so far. Last years tally was around 27. This year with 47 days gone I have been to the gym a pathetic 4 times.

From tomorrow I will aim to go to the gym 5 times a week and do at least 5k on the cross trainer. I will also do weight training for strength.

Stay in shape poker people........
