Big Daddy Update - 30/03/12

Its been a while since I did a health and fitness update so here goes.

My last post was about my obsession with doing pull ups. I really got into it and in fact so much so that I managed to injure myself on the inside of both my elbows. I got to the stage where I could do 5 proper standing start pull ups which was pretty good considering that I couldn't do any a few months before I started.

I need to realise that I am no longer a 20yr old and can't go hell for leather with exercise. :)    Slow and steady wins the race..!! I was hitting the pull ups hard and doing them every single day, sometimes twice a day.

My right elbow is completely fine now but the left one still hurts a little when I try to do a pull up. I can just about do 2 now.

My main focus now has been to switch to cardio work and try to lose weight. I ended last week at 13st 6lbs and today I am 13st 1lb after hitting the cross trainer a few times and eating less. I have a wedding to go to next Sunday and could not fit into my old suit when I tried it on a few weeks back. So my mission for the next 9 days is to lose another 4lbs or so. If not I will have to fork out for a new suit which will probably cost between $200 - $300. I will try to do 8k per day on the x-trainer.

Bring it Back Homie

A down session turns right around with the help of a mega cooler for the villain.

The turn bet is just ridonkulous. You need to charge anyone wit a set or the Ad or a draw but jamming is just going scare most of your potential value from these guys. Against a whale its not that bad but I prefer a slight over bet or pot bet vs all players to induce a jam or make someone come along in a -EV situation.

Sport Relief 2012 - Poker Grindathon

I am just about to commence a grindathon in aid of sport relief.

The fund raiser is currently going on all over the UK.

For the next 3hrs I will play a mix of NL50 FR and NL25 Zoom and hopefully I will make some winnings.

I will donate half of these winnings to sport relief. If I make a loss I will donate something anyway.

To find out more about the charity please see below.

ZOOM Poker - The Experiment

Zoom poker is the new, fast-paced ring game format. It’s just like your favorite poker games, except your opponents change every hand. This is because you are playing against a pool of players rather than a fixed set of opponents on a single table.

When you fold in Zoom you are immediately moved to a hand at a new table. You can fold at any point in the hand when you are facing a bet. You can even click the ‘Fast Fold’ button, which allows you to fold when it is not yet your turn to act. This greatly speeds up the action, because you can move on to the next hand before everyone else finishes playing their hand.

One of the things I like about poker is the table dynamics that build up when you sit at a table playing hand after hand with the same guys and try to figure them out. Multi tabling means lots of different dynamics at each table you play. You lose a bit of this with zoom.

Pokerstars have essentially copied Rush Poker from Full Tilt and come with with zoom which has been live this week. I don't like it as much as playing 16 tables like I do now but it does have some advantages.

VPP grinders can play many more hands per hour at each table and therefore get bonuses a lot quicker. Short sessions are now feasible and this is what I have been using zoom for. The are a few times each day when I have between 5-20 mins spare and cannot fire up a grind session as its too short. Now I can with zoom..!!

So far it seems pretty cool but for me it will be a supplementary game and not a substitute for my normal games.

I was totally bamboozled by the villain in this hand. Not sure if he is trying to rep a flush on the river or value bet his TP or if he is just randomly clicking buttons...

Know your Villain...

An interesting situation came up a couple of days ago.

There was a villain who seemed to be targeting me on numerous tables. He is a losing reg that I have encountered before but he moves up and down the leagues.

Anyway, he was at NL50 on this day and so was I and he seemed to be playing every pot that I was and he is only a 13/10 so its hard to be in all the same pots as another nit.

He was making lots of moves on me pretty aggressively and I felt like he was just f***ing with me. I folded to his aggression a few times but then I took a stand and his holding is pretty lol. I will be playing back a lot more at him and calling him down light too.

While the hand is not that interesting the build up was:

SB: $60.14 (120.3 bb)
